MSN, Masters Nursing Anesthesia, CRNA

March 26, 2013

I was born in New York and raised in St. Louis and now reside in Atlanta. I hold the degrees of B.S. in Biology and B.S. in Nursing (Magna cum Laude) and am a Registered Nurse. I am a well qualified and highly experienced nurse now wishing to specialize in a demanding field which will fully use my academic ability and experience to date whilst extending my knowledge into a fascinating and demanding specialist area.

I decided to become a nurse at the age of nine and have never wavered in that decision nor regretted it. I have nursed in a variety of settings and have experience in autonomous use of highly technical medical equipment, have worked in many roles requiring independent decision making and have filled leadership and training roles. I have thoroughly enjoyed the ‘bedside nursing’ that I have undertaken and believe that I am an excellent nurse, however I am also ambitious and academically able and wish to progress in my career and realize that almost any choice made at this stage to advance my career will involve a move away from direct patient care.

On that basis, I have very carefully considered my next step and have decided that I have the academic ability, commitment, potential and the characteristics required to qualify and work as a CRNA. I am attracted to this specialty because the training will provide academic challenges beyond that in almost any other nursing specialty and which I am fully capable of meeting. The CRNA role interests me because it is a prestigious one providing autonomy and is critical and technical in nature, it will therefore fully use my significant critical care knowledge and experience. The role also provides wide career choices, a flexible schedule and to be honest, and not least, an income above that available to me in my present role.

I am aware that the program will attract many well qualified applicants. However, I genuinely consider myself to be an excellent candidate. I know that I shall be able to meet the academic challenge that the program will present and have the technical aptitude and interest necessary to qualify and succeed in the role. I will also bring significant and relevant nursing experience to the program and can promise full commitment and enthusiastic participation.
